Universal Pictures is tuning up a definitive biopic on the formative years of Bon Jovi, the quartet that emerged from humble New Jersey origins to sell over 130 million albums earning their way into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Multiple studios chased the project with Universal landing the deal.

The studio that made fact-based music biopics Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile has invested in a package that will include participation of leader Jon Bon Jovi and access to the band’s music library.

A director has not been set nor has casting for the group’s key members including singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres, all of whom are still with the band, along with guitarist Richie Sambora, who left the group in 2013, and bassist Alec John Such, who departed in 1994 and died in 2022.
